Mike Pook – General Manager Sourcing General Merchandise, The Warehouse Group
Mike is a retail executive with over 35 years' experience encompassing Retail Operations, Merchandising, Store Format development and General Management.  Mike's current role focusses on growing the direct sourcing side of the business (for General Merchandise).  He works closely with the buyers here to understand their range requirements, and then with The Warehouse team in China to source products and suppliers to fulfil those needs, doing this especially through growing factory-direct relationships.

Dave Salisbury -Tullen Snips
In 2017 Dave was doing his recycling and needed to separate cardboard from plastic, and finding scissors did not really do the job he remembered a useful New Zealand tool from decades ago called Tullen Snips. Famous for cutting pretty much anything and having not been manufactured or sold for decades that started him on a journey to bring them back. He visited the Canton Fair for the first time in 2017 and will share his story about the Canton Fair and his experiences with manufacturing in China.

EMA (Employers & Manufacturers Association)
The EMA provides its members with employment relations advice from industry specialists, has a business school with more than 100 courses and a wide variety of conferences and events to help businesses connect and succeed. In addition, the EMA advocates on behalf of its members – large and small and from all sectors - on matters such as employment law, resource management and infrastructure to bring change that create conditions in which they can do business easily and thrive. It has close to 8000 members from Taupo north, but offers many services nationally, and is part of the BusinessNZ network.

The Canton Import and Export Fair is the largest trade fair in China. It has been running since 1957 and is held twice a year. For many years the Canton Fair has been an important destination for foreign companies interested in importing products from China and in more recent years it has also added a category for foreign exporters. The NZCTA has a long history with the Canton Fair dating back to when one of NZCTA’s founding members (and past Chairman) Vic Percival, or Pan Xi Fu (Western Budda) as the Chinese named him, was amongst the first “foreigners” to attend the very first Canton Trade Fair in 1957. Vic was the only “foreigner” attending that first fair still alive to attend the 100th Canton Fair in October 2006.

This is a free event.
